KIBLIX 2021 / Workshops
Dina Karadžić and Vedran Gligo: Gl1t̷c̛ḩ ̸ ͢Aŕt 101
16 February, 23 February and 2 March 2021, 6–8 p.m.

Gl1t̷c̛ḩ ̸ ͢Aŕt 101 is a series of three modular 'glitch art' workshops aimed at finding, documenting, and catalyzing unusual and aesthetic flaws in digital visual file systems. Participants will learn about working with digital files, free software, and digital art creation processes based on knowledge of the concepts (format, memory, codec, program, and license) as building blocks of the modern digital ecosystem. Each workshop will begin with a brief presentation of glitch creation methods, techniques, and practices, emphasizing terminology and databending practice. The workshops will be performed by artists, hackers, and event organizers Dina Karadžić and Vedran Gligo.

You don’t need specific prior knowledge or special equipment to participate; you only need a computer with a microphone and a stable internet connection. The workshops consist of three two-hour meetings, which will take place on Tuesdays (16 February, 23 February, and 2 March) via the open platform talk.formatc.hr.

Applications: irena.boric@kibla.org.
Participation is free of charge.

PROGRAM

Workshop 1: Practical introduction to databending
Tuesday, 16 February 2021, 6–8 p.m.

The workshop explains the basic terminology of working with data and provides insight into a broader understanding of digital files and systems' structure. In the workshop, participants will use free and open-source software for easy audio and textual interventions in digital visual files to create glitch art.

Participants are asked to download the following programs before the workshop:
GIMP [Linux / macOS / Windows]
GHex [Linux] / Hexfiend [macOS] / HxD [Windows]

Workshop 2: Basics of an image as sound
Tuesday, 23 February 2021, 6–8 p.m.

An experimental digital image processing workshop will present a simple and effective sonication of visual materials. With workshop leaders' help, participants will use image re/deconstruction tools and create a series of digital reinterpretations of the digital image, prepare and use various digital image file formats and free software designed to work with sound.

Participants are asked to download the following programs before the workshop:
GIMP [Linux / macOS / Windows]
Audacity [Linux / macOS / Windows]

Workshop 3: Video error techniques
Tuesday, 2 March 2021, 6–8 p.m.

The Glitch video workshop describes and puts into practice an attractive reinterpretation video technique – datamosh. Participants will use free software to work – transcoding, modifying, and conserving video materials – and to create sustainable multimedia errors.

Participants are asked to download the following programs before the workshop:
HandBrake [Linux / macOS / Windows]
Avidemux 2.5.6 [Linux - Wine / Windows] / 2.5.6 [macOS]
