For the research project 'BCI painter,' we received a regional golden prize for innovation. Our innovation 'BCI painter' is also included in the national selection, which will take place on 30 November in Brdo pri Kranju.  Together with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Slovenia, we are preparing a virtual program and award ceremony for this solemn event. We developed the project in collaboration with STPŠ Trbovlje, namely with doc. Dr. Uroš Ocepek and students Matic Bernot and Jon Tavčar. Those high school students are also the youngest innovators.

Device management with one's mind is no longer science fiction but is a part of the present, as this area covers the development of devices based on BCI (Brain-Computer Interface) technology. BCI is intended both for the analysis of the functioning of the human brain and the use of such technology for the empowerment of the speech and movement impaired. Previous BCI solutions are time-consuming, as the individual must confirm and define each move. DDTlab is the first in Slovenia to use BCI technology for abstract painting in virtual space. Our installation is based on a virtual keyboard, by which the user can choose options via the BCI interface using only his or hers mind - brush strokes, reminiscent of the color coatings of the Zasavje academic painter Janez Knez. To date, the BCI installation has been seen and tested by more than 400 individuals (elementary, high school, college students, researchers, business people, artists, and even the elderly). Our target group is also movement-impaired individuals and individuals with speech/communication deficits. The purpose of the innovation is to alleviate the problems of movement and speech impaired; to present and bring modern technology closer to a more massive crowd, which otherwise does not have the opportunity to get to experience and test such technologies. Our solution is not limited only to painting with thoughts. BCI technology offers a wide range of applications, so we will continue to develop and creatively research this innovation in the future.
