In the open call for the co-production of projects of the RUK network, DDTlab selected the Slovenian video and new media artist Srečo Dragan, who has many years of experience in the field of combining intermedia art with technology.
The project Time Tunnel 2 is a continuation of the artistic research Time Tunnel 1, in which the user can travel through the vast universe via an interface in a virtual space. Time Tunnel 2 is a continuation of the artistic exploration of travel, and this time the user is directed into the nano-world of atoms and molecules, wearing a brain interface – a BCI device – on his head, which he uses to enter into interactions with other people in a virtual 3D environment.
On a customized keyboard, which DDTlab programmed together with the students from the Faculty of Computer and Information Science at the University of Ljubljana, the user can use only his mind to write down his Social Security Number, while the Processing software simultaneously draws nanotubes made up of molecules and atoms. The 3D model is based on actual measurements provided to us by the Institute of Chemistry. To travel through the 3D augmented reality model, the user also needs Hololens headset. With the headset on their head, the users move in real time and in the physical environment, e.g. in the laboratory, gallery or wherever the installation is placed, but also in the virtual space of the 3D model, where they select their own molecule and sign it with their personal code, which remains in the model's memory as the users’ imprint of the visit to Time Tunnel 2.
