Immersive sound installation Hacked Meditation at HEKA

20.01.2023 11:00

Join us for a special event in the immersive sound studio at HEKA. The immersive sound installation Hacked Meditation by the indisciplinary designer, researcher and curator Tamara Lašič Jurković, produced by Aksioma, Institute for Contemporary Arts Ljubljana (post-production HEKA - RUK, 2022) will be on view.

About the installation

Over the years, taking care of ourselves has become the norm of presenting ourselves as responsible, exemplary individuals in modern societies. As a result, meditation has become a recipe not only for overcoming all kinds of mental distress, but also for achieving harmony in our relationships.

Hacked meditation is a guided meditation that encourages the listener to reflect on what it means (not) to be human, if we are to acknowledge all the organisms that co-exist with us. It helps us to understand how dependent we are on natural systems and other biotic organisms. It makes us realise that we are embedded in the web of life, not the other way around - which neoliberalism has convinced us we are at the top of the pyramid of life and that we have the right to exploit natural resources and pollute the environment without a thought.

The Hacked Meditation project deliberately avoids visual representation of its content, as it is about microbial life and hidden power relations invisible to the human eye. The focus is on questioning existing beliefs and ideas, i.e. the components that exist in our minds and can be most easily accessed by closing our eyes and thinking.
