For humanization of technology

RUK is a network of research centers at the intersection of art, science and technology. In this interdisciplinary triangle, we are developing innovative products and services for the soft and humane technology of the future. The investment is co-financed by the Republic of Slovenia and the European Union from the European Regional Development Fund. More ...

Workshop: Manipulations of Sensory Integrations with VR Tools

19.04.2021 09:45

Team: DDTlab and Trbovlje Newmedia Setting (TNM)

The purpose of the workshop is to acquire the basics of neurophysical knowledge about the human body. Participants learn that the human brain constantly adapts its functioning to various external stimuli. The ability of the brain to redistribute ever new neural pathways based on new experiences confirms that the brain is a very plastic organ.

Participants get to know the concept and meaning of sensory integration, which is responsible for the smooth flow of information in the brain. Sensory integration is a neurological process that helps us use the body appropriately in interaction with the environment. The body organizes sensory information and stimuli which a person receives from the environment and from the body through various sensory systems: tactile (type, touch), visual (sight), auditory (hearing), olfactory (smell), proprioceptive (pressure, temperature, vibration), vestibular (position in space and change of it).

Participants gain this knowledge by learning about scientific and artistic experiments that deal with manipulating sensory integration (manipulating visual, haptic, and tactile stimuli), all while using new technologies and new systems. They will also learn about and test the functioning of foreign body ownership. The ownership of the other person's body, the avatar, and the ownership of the manikin (doll) body is tested. The ownership of the other person's face and the ownership of the face of the manikin (doll) is also tested.

Applicability: education.
